Manuela Sedmach

Manuela Sedmach was born in Trieste in 1953. She began her artistic research in the 1970s and participated in numerous exhibitions in galleries and museums. In 1999 she won the “Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant”, New York. On her canvases the artist from Trieste often draws the indefinite landscapes enveloped in mist. Manuela Sedmach starts from absolute black to reach maximum brightness through a layering of glazes, to obtain a visual perception similar to that of the atmosphere. She truly creates worlds and thoughts with just a few marks and colours seeking a form of inner freedom from homologation, a freedom that can be expressed with even just a few marks of a canvas.
Her works are held in important private and public collections, including the Smak Museum in Ghent, Belgium.
